Problem
An indie tabletop RPG developer wants to make their game stand out in a saturated market
A longtime fan and player of tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) decided to create his own game. His goal was to develop a system that was simple and friendly for new players, especially young ones. Everyone who tested it really liked the result. But the client wondered: How can I make my product stand out in a market so crowded with similar options?
Solution
A customized environment to showcase the product professionally and build a fan base
Present the concept of the game
Showcase the game's unique mechanics.
Present and highlight the target audience.
Present the universe in which the game takes place.

Provide free tests
Provide free materials for testing and evaluation.
Present the instructions in a dynamic way.

Bring the community together
Share an environment for discussion and conversation.
Increase contact between the developer and the audience.

User interview
There’s so much entertainment today that if I’m not reminded of something, I end up forgetting it
Together with the developer, I created a series of questions about players’ habits (their relationship with TTRPGs, how they spent their free time, their gaming routines, etc.). After compiling these questions, we visited board game stores and interviewed customers and sellers. At the same time, we conducted a similar questionnaire in online RPG communities.

Analysis & Planning
Let’s create a place that deserves people’s time
The customer profile was used to develop the Proposition Canvas methodologies to verify if the solution aligned with these needs. Then, all the user's touchpoints with the experience were mapped.
Canva
Gain creator: All content and products for consumption in one place.
Products and services: Documents and communities.
Pain relief: A simple and easy-to-use interface for searching content.

User Journey Map
Understand the first contact a person would have with the platform and map all the steps until they become a satisfied user and possibly a fan.

Design
The computer is the environment where people play and study TTRPG in depth
“When a group decides to play TTRPG online, the computer becomes the tool.” That was the conclusion we reached at the end of the analysis. Therefore, we decided to create a landing page containing all the content created for the game, as well as development updates.
Testing & Improvements
Planing + Sketching + Testing
Having defined the project's structure, it was time for planning and testing. Several designs were created to develop a smooth and intuitive user journey. In addition, numerous sketches were made to create screens that would facilitate the creation of the wireframes.

Lessons
What I'll do differently next time
Don’t overcomplicate. Some projects require less complexity and rigidity in the execution of methodologies. Before starting the development of something, we need to clearly understand deadlines and timelines so we can properly plan the next steps. Although this was a simple product to develop, I recognize that, due to the lack of urgency, I spent too much time applying various processes. Therefore, next time, I will make sure my time is used as efficiently as possible so I don’t underperform on tasks with tight deadlines.
